Troy's top 100 Movies. #53 A League of Their Own

#53 A League of Their Own. Directed by Penny Marshall this 1992 comedy depicts the real life story of the All American Girls Baseball League. When World War 2 forces pro baseball players to enlist, Walter Harvey, candy magnate and owner of the Chicago Cubs convinces his fellow owners to bankroll the first ever all girls baseball league to fill the void.
Starring Tom Hanks , Geena Davis and Madonna A League of Their Own is a funny heart warming comedy. With Tom Hanks stepping out of his nice guy persona to play Jimmy Dugan a nasty alcoholic who is forced to coach the Rockford Peaches, he constantly butts heads with Dotty played by Geena Davis who is the team's star player. With a terrific supporting cast including Lori Petty, Rosie O'Donnell and Jon Lovitz A League of Their Own is a great underdog story about family, teamwork and women's rights. There aren't many movies that put a smile on my face when I watch them quite like this one does.
