Geek of the Week: Wil Wheaton

Welcome to my series of posts where we spotlight famous or influential people who also have a taste for all things geek. This week we spotlight Actor/Blogger/Writer Wil Wheaton. Born in 1972 in Burbank California, Wil made his acting debut in the 1981 television film A Long Way Home and his first film debut in the animated film The Secret of NIMH. Then Wil gained more wide spread recognition with his roles in two Stephen King adaptations Stand by Me in 1986 and The Body.
However Wheaton is most known by his reoccurring role as Wesley Crusher in the hugely popular Star Trek: The Next Generation which the character appeared in the first three seasons and a brief appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis. After a brief absence from acting Wheaton returned in the mid 90's where he appeared in several films and TV shows and lent his voice to dozens of cartoons. Wheaton once again gained international recognition for his guest role in The Big Bang Theory in 2009 and on the TV show Eureka.
Wil has also found success with his Blog Wil Wheaton Dot Net and has had a strong political voice.
Wheaton has also made mention of his love of table top games, he is an avid poker player and loves Dungeons and Dragons and also hosts a web series called TableTop where he teaches how to play various card and board games and plays a round of the game with celebrities.
